Oh no! Mariah Carrey has defrosted - and STILL making bank! But how much?

Goodbye pumpkin; hello Mariah! The phenomenon of The Mariah Christmas Takeover is upon us, as she comes out of hibernation to reclaim her title! But how does she do it, and how much does she make every year?

To those not familiar, Mariah Carey’s influence on pop culture stretches much further than what meets the eye, where although this may be a light-hearted blog post, Mariah is a phenomenon to say the least. Her multicultural background had broken barriers in the early 90’s with her sensational 5-octave vocal range, where she had played a large role in the commercialization of R&B music. Pairing this female songbird with leading male MC’s of the hip-hop and R&B world was trailblazing for the times, where she helped popularize rappers to the mainstream.

Her video release early this morning mocks Halloween festivities and her position in society; everything our meme-driven internet could possibly dream of!

Most performing artists dream of a Billboard Top 10, maybe even a Christmas number 1! Not for the marketing spin doctors at Mariah’s camp! They want the whole damn season all to themselves, and let’s not lie – they’ve milked a terrified cow, absolutely dry!

But there is method to their madness, and a mad methodology which we can all take a page from! Come 1st of November, the self-proclaimed Queen thaws from last winter, and enters our lives for a painful 60-days or so with her songs hitting the airwaves on repeat.

In a recent MOV blog about Drake’s camp utilizing modern day virality techniques, Mariah’s team grasps neo-cultures and harnesses the art of memes as a driving mechanism to her annual success, where this diva takes it all in her stride! After all, if you are racking in an estimated 4.2 million dollars in royalties on one song you put out in 1994, you better be sure you’re going to have a sense of humor for a few internet trolls! Not a bad chunk of change, where it has been estimated that “All I Want For Christmas” has earned her over 70 million dollar! *insert Dr. Evil pinky*

For context, 2020 saw her demolish an all-time record, for the biggest single day stream in Spotify history, with an unfathomable 17.23 million streams in a 24-hour period! Oh you thought she was done? Oh no child, sit around the campfire as we skim a small sample of the dozens of endorsements with “All I Want For Christmas”! Mariah partnered with McDonald’s, Walkers Crisps (Lay’s for us here in Europe), Spotify, Matel, heck… she even had a stint with WWE!

One thing for sure is that by the time the New Year arrives, we will be well and truly done with hearing Mariah Carey, but salute her phenomenal career and owning an entire holiday season single handed.
